Unlike in Germany or the UK, where governments started to become involved in compensation payments to Thalidomiders since the early 1970s, for a very long time survivors in Canada received little or no support from Ottawa. That’s why Canadian Thalidomiders joined together in 1987 to form the “Thalidomide Victims Association of Canada” (TVAC), assisted by the Canadian War Amps. Among the five founding members of TVAC were Paul Murphy, Alvin Law and Randolph Warren. Together they hoped they would have more success in receiving proper compensation from their government.
