Starting in the 1990s, Thalidomide had a huge comeback in many other countries as well, first in the treatment of leprosy and later also for cancer. In December 1996, Celgene, a US pharmaceutical company from New Jersey, submitted a drug application to the FDA for their new Thalidomide-product “Thalomid”. The US drug company had obtained the patent for new applications of Thalidomide from Rockefeller University (New York) in 1992.
