In April 2013 the German Bundestag significantly raised the monthly benefits to Thalidomide survivors from a maximum of 1152 Euros to a maximum of 6912 Euros. These changes were applied retroactively, dating back to Jan. 1, 2013. The German federal government was now providing 90 Million Euros per year for the monthly pensions and made an extra 30 Million Euros per year available for survivors with additional special needs. Grünenthal did not contribute to the pension increase.
